Mother of the Bride

15th February 2021

One of my favourite things as a Bridal makeup artist is doing mother of the bride makeup.

When I first stepped (or fell) into the world of makeup I spent many years working for Estee Lauder on a busy counter in Birmingham. These years on counter gave me a lot of practice working on more mature women, listening to their concerns and challenges and developing lots of youth boosting tricks to visually turn back the clock.

When I do mother of the bride makeup, it is often the case that she doesn’t wear much makeup and is concerned about looking “over done” this is usually because the products and application that used to work for her don’t work as well for her anymore. I really love giving these women their confidence back and showing them that it only takes a little makeup to make a lot of difference.

I was delighted to do mother of the bride makeup on Jan at Sophies wedding. This fabulous blonde bombshell loved makeup and gave me free rein to do whatever I wanted for her look.

We wanted to have the makeup elegant with a healthy splash of glam thrown in. I use Charlotte Tilbury’s “The Golden Goddess” on Jans amazing blue eyes, the soft bronze tones worked to enhance the colour and add definition without looking too heavy,

I used Estee Lauder Double wear foundation for a flawless long-lasting base however I sheered out the formula and really buffed it into Jans skin for a more natural effect. I used an illuminating liquid concealer for a little extra coverage where needed and applied a liquid highlighter rather than a powder over the high points of Jans face for an all over glow.

Jan usually opted for a more beige toned lipstick however with the rose gold theme of the wedding I used “Penelope Pink” from Charlotte Tilbury for a little more depth of colour with “Pillow Talk” lip pencil for extra definition and volume.

The overall look was youthful, elegant and timeless and I was very happy that Jan felt as beautiful as she looked.
